Volume crystallization and microwave dielectric properties of indialite/cordierite glass by TiO2 addition

Indialite/cordierite (Mg2Al4Si5O18) glass-ceramics with a low dielectric constant of 4.7 and high Qf >200 × 103 GHz are predicted for use as micro/millimeter-wave materials in the fifth generation (5G) mobile communication systems. The have serious cracking problem caused by anisotropic crystal growth during surface crystallization. In this paper, was prevented adding TiO2 which acts seed. produced without were composed spherical crystals approximately 10 μm diameter, formed volume Precipitated phases crystallized at 1200–1350 °C/10 h 20 indialite, cordierite, Al2TiO5 rutile. analyzed Rietveld method. Indialite precipitated an intermediate metastable compound lower temperature 1200 °C transformed to cordierite crystallization temperature. reaction between new phase. amounts rutile affected microwave properties. particular, amount TCf. cases wt % added TiO2, 1250 10/20 TCf values improved -2/-8 ppm/°C.
